The independent food and shopping scene is one of the things I really love about Birmingham, so for me, the Independent Birmingham Card is one of the best ideas to come out of Birmingham for ages.
After starting the Independent Birmingham card on his own, Joe – the man behind it all – has been building up the roster of eateries, bars, shops and events all over the city. From coffee to clothing, the IB card gives indie lovers the discount card of their dreams, and encourages locals to believe in Birmingham.
I caught up with Joe last week to get some insider information. Here are his favourite places for:
Coffee: Saint Kitchen
Cake: Carrot cake at Six Eight Kafe
Brunch: Juju’s Café
Curry: Itihaas JQ
Beers: The Church Inn
Pizza: Alfie Birds at The Custard Factory
Sweet potato fries: Bureau
Burger: The Original Patty Men
Sandwich: Pulled Pork from Peel & Stone
Burrito: Habanero Café
Chicken Wings: Rose Villa Tavern
Pancakes: Cherry Reds
Waffles: Bournville Waffle Company
Hanging out: Digbeth Dining Club
And finally, Joe’s best hidden foodie gem? Fletchers Bar & Eatery, Kings Heath.
So armed with a plethora of new places to try and one of these beauties, I believe in Birmingham, and I encourage everyone to join me!
