Blue Mango

There’s nothing I like more than going out after work for a few cocktails with friends, especially at this time of year.

Last week I was invited to Blue Mango on Broad Street to sample their new cocktail menu with some fellow bloggers, including some of their winter warmers just in time for Christmas.

The menu is vast, with a big selection of cocktails including some familiar ones like the omnipresent strawberry mojito, to new takes on classics like their pomegranate martini, to innovative new drinks including quintessential Indian spices to complement the menu.

I really enjoyed the Pomegranate Martini. It tasted slightly more alcoholic than some of the others, which I enjoyed, and the pomegranate freshness gave it a real lift.

I was also really impressed with the Torque Wrench, which was vanilla Absolut and Midori served with Vodka, apple, lemon and fresh cucumber. It smelt really light and cucumbery on the nose, and was really refreshing to drink, with a sweet aftertaste of the vanilla. It was quite complex and I really enjoyed that. I would definitely order it to compliment a good hot curry!

The hot selection was good too, with Blue Mango punch – a spicy take on mulled wine, and the Golden Soother – a hot punch made from amaretto, cognac, sugar and lemon which was really sweet and quite moreish.

I must say though the couple of cocktails which contained cardamom were a real no no for me. I found the flavour far too perfumey and not to my taste, but if you’re a fan of cardamom then definitely give them a try. I imagine they may work well when accompanied by a meal, just not for me!

We were also treated to a game of shot roulette with cucumber, chilli and coconut shots. I was lucky, I got a coconut one which was very sweet and quite tasty, although not something I would normally choose.

We also got to sample some cauliflower pakoras and marinated chicken so we weren’t drinking on an empty stomach. The snacks were really tasty and definitely gave me an appetite to go back for the full experience!

If you fancy going along yourself, Blue Mango are offering 1 free cocktail when purchasing a starter and main meal to readers in January, just quote BM Cocktail to your server when ordering.

Enjoy!
