Mother’s ruin or quintessentially English tipple, it’s hard to deny the seemily never ending popularity of gin. It’s refreshing mix of juniper and various botanicals makes it versatile as well as interesting, and has cemented its place as one of Britain’s most popular drinks.
So popular in fact, it has its very own festival. This weekend sees Gin Festival return to Birmingham, bringing with it over 100 different gins to sample with Fevertree tonics and mixers, or in a signature cocktail.
As well as meeting local and up-and-coming distillers, there will be 4 gin bars and a cocktail bar, gin masterclasses throughout the day, live music and of course some snacks to soak up the alcohol!
There’s also an off license where you can buy bottles to take home, or if you don’t fancy carrying them, you can place an order on the night and have it sent to you for free. There will be a selection of gins exclusive to the festival too.
Starting today, the festival will take over The Bond in Digbeth, and run across the whole weekend, finishing on Sunday. There are 5 sessions which you can find details of on the Gin Festival site.
Tickets are just £7.50 and will get you a specially designed glass which you can keep, and a welcome pack with listings of all the gins available to try. Drinks tokens are £5 and can be used at all of the bars.
I’ll be heading down tomorrow afternoon, so if you haven’t managed to bag a ticket, keep an eye on my instagram feed for all the action!
My tickets to Gin Festival were offered complimentary, many thanks to the team there.
